SAU T&F teams compete in Fighting Scots Invitational

The St. Ambrose Fighting Bees indoor track & field teams traveled down to Monmouth, Ill. to compete in their final regular-season meet, the Fighting Scots Invitational.

Women's Meet

Freshman sprinter Lindsey Campbell got the Fighting Bee women started with a place-finish in the 60m dash, finishing in eighth place (8.69). St. Ambrose dominated the 200m dash with four Bees finishing in the top-eight. Megan Jansett took second (27.41), Lexie Johnson placed third (27.48), Jadie Knecht finished fifth (27.91), and Leah Rose crossed the finish line in sixth (27.99).

Rose kept it rolling in the 60m hurdles, taking gold with a time of 9.28. Lauryn Bennett also medaled in the event with a third-place finish at 10.56.

Jansett also continued her strong senior season with another silver finish, this time in the 400m dash (1:01.07). Gabbi Butler placed fourth in the event with a time of 1:04.75 with Knecht right behind in fifth at 1:04.93. Karissa Koval ran hard for a fourth-place finish in the 800m run (2:36.70).

The quartet of Madalyn Oltman, Bennett, Campbell, and Anna Possehl combined for a time of 1:58.59 in the 4x200m relay to place second. In the 4x400m relay, Rileigh Fortune, Koval, Christyna LaMantia, and Becca Neaterour took fifth overall with a time of 4:47.47.

The Fighting Bee women had some strong performances in the jumping events. Olivia Sobieszczyk (J1.44m) and Oltman (1.39m) went sixth and seventh in the high jump, respectively. Tar Ryan cleared 2.74m in the pole vault to place fourth in the event. Johnson and Abby Camp both medaled in the long jump, with Johnson taking silver (4.96m) and Camp taking bronze (4.89m). Lily Olsen placed in the long jump, taking eighth with a 4.72m jump. Olsen also placed in the triple jump, placing fourth with a 9.80m jump.

Annah Miller led the Fighting Bees in the shot put, placing seventh overall with a best throw of 12.14m.

Men's Meet

The Fighting Bee men got off to a quick start at the Fighting Scots Invitational, with four Bees making the finals in the 60m dash. Will Reynolds took second (7.16), Andrew Olenek placed third (7.20), Brentin Erickson placed fourth (7.30) and Teagan Bowers finished eighth (7.38). Erickson and Reynolds kept going in the 200m dash, with Erickson taking third (23.44) and Reynolds finishing fifth (23.66).

Will Reemtsma continued his stellar junior season with a gold-medal finish in the 400m dash, winning the race with a time of 50.17. He also placed second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.35. Will Kruse finished just behind Reemtsma in the hurdle event, placing third (8.77).

Matt Jung cruised to a third-place finish in the 1-mile run, collecting the bronze with a time of 4:48.62. Tommy Ashby (2:12.36) and Bryan Flentge (2:13.63) placed seventh and eighth in the 800m run, respectively. Danny Parr took fifth in the 3000m run with a time of 9:59.73, while Chris Borschnack finished sixth (10:01.68).

The Fighting Bees won the 4x200m relay. Ran by Olenek, Reynolds, Justin Wright, and Erickson, the Bees' baton crossed the finish line first at a time of 1:33.43 in a tight finish. St. Ambrose also won the distance medley, with Luke Benes, Ben Wilson, Kale Cartee, and Nolan Rudd winning with a time of 10:41.32. The quartet of Rudd, Cartee, Jung, and Noah Maske took seventh in the 4x400m relay (3:49.59).

St. Ambrose had another great day in the field events, starting with a gold-medal performance by Sam Rush in the pole vault (4.30m). Jacob Rossmiller placed fourth in the event (J3.70m), Isaac Mojica took sixth (3.40m) and Keagan Anderson finished eighth (J3.10m). Justin Griser placed second in the high jump after clearing 174m, while Isaac Mojica took fourth (J1.69m) and Simon Holland finished fifth (1.65m).

Two Bees medaled in the triple jump; Quantrell Polk took third with a 12.06m jump and Bowers won the event with a 12.83m jump. Marquan Quinn jumped to a bronze medal in the long jump, blasting off a 6.00m jump. Polk was right behind in fourth place (5.98m).

St. Ambrose absolutely dominated the shot put event, with five Bees in the top-eight. Mick Saloninas shattered his school record once again to win the event, this time launching a 17.24m throw, the first ever 17+ meter throw in St. Ambrose history. Jonah Wilson took silver (15.90m), Alec Seifert won bronze (14.99m), Bryce Peacher finished fourth (13.95m), and Kyle Uhl took sixth (13.47m). Saloninas is now ranked third overall in the NAIA for shot put.

Hunter Kasap placed fourth overall in the weight throw (14.43m) while Payton Woods placed seventh (14.17m).
