Bees keep rolling at Bumble Rumble

Competing in their second meet in six days, the St. Ambrose indoor track and field teams hosted the Bumble Rumble Friday afternoon at the Roell Indoor Track. St. Ambrose hosted top competition from 11 schools in the one-day meet.

Women's Meet

Megan Jansett got the Bee women going on the track with two strong performances. Jansett took fourth in the 200m dash in 27.34 and second in the 400m dash in 1:01.25. Paige Crippes finished eighth in the 200m dash at 27.96. Gabbi Butler and Jadie Knecht placed sixth (1:05.27) and seventh (1:05.45), respectively, in the 400m dash.

The Fighting Bees had a strong showing in the 1000m run, with Emma Duncan winning the event in 3:17.21. Rileigh Fortune and Jayne Eilderts crossed the finish line in tandem, with Fortune taking fourth in 3:50.49 and Eilderts taking fifth in 3:50.55.

Lauryn Bennett blitzed to a fourth-place finish in the 60m hurdles at 9.92. Crippes, Jansett, Karissa Koval, and Knecht teamed up to take fourth in the 4x400, the meet's lone relay, in 4:20.32.

In the field events, Olivia Sobieszczyk cleared 1.45 to place eighth-overall in the high jump and Tara Ryan cleared 2.60m in the pole vault to place sixth. Lily Olsen continued her strong season with a fourth-place finish in the triple jump (9.90m) and a fifth-place finish in the long jump (4.83m). Lexie Johnson launched to a 5.12m mark in the long jump to take third. Annah Miller blasted off a 12.33m toss to take bronze in the shot put.

The St. Ambrose women collected a team total of 73 points to finish runner-up at the Bumble Rumble. Olivet Nazarene finished with 203.5 points to win the meet.

Men's Meet

Reigning CCAC Track Athlete of the Week Will Reemtsma got the Fighting Bee men started with a pair of medal finishes. Reemtsma finished third in the 200m dash (22.56) and finished second in the 60m hurdles. Will Kruse took fourth in the 60m hurdles in 8.76.

Ben Wilson followed Reemtsma up with a third-place finish of his own in the 400m dash (52.05), with Jonny Swarm not far behind in sixth at 52.86.

Nolan Rudd kept the trend going with a third-place finish in the 1000m run (2:35.30). Rudd was joined in the top-8 by Luke Benes in sixth (2:45.73) and Kale Cartee in seventh (2:47.66). Will Dowda placed eighth in the 1 mile run with a time of 4:43.24.

The Bees took seventh in the 4x400 relay, with Wilson, Reemtsma, Swarm, and Andrew Olenek crossing the finish line in 3:37.33.

St. Ambrose dominated the shot put, with reigning CCAC Field Athlete of the Week Mick Saloninas breaking his own school record from a year ago with a 16.80m throw in the shot put to win the event. Jonah Wilson took second (15.49m), Alec Seifert placed sixth (14.25m), and Bryce Peacher finished eighth (13.71m). In the weight throw, Hunter KAsap threw a 13.56m toss to place eighth.

Justin Griser cleared 1.81m to place seventh in the high jump. Jacob Rossmiller cleared 3.73m in the pole vault to place sixth and Nate Long cleared 3.30m to place seventh. Justin Wright hit a 6.39m jump to place seventh in the long jump and a 13.07m jump in the triple jump to place fourth.

The Fighting Bee men finished with 82 points to claim third-place overall at the meet. Olivet Nazarene won the Bumble Rumble with a total of 147 points.

The St. Ambrose track and field teams will be right back on the track this coming weekend when they host the two-day Fighting Bee Invite at the Roell Indoor Track, beginning Friday afternoon.
