Bees get back to work at Battle in the Hive

The St. Ambrose track & field teams returned from the holiday break to host the Battle in the Hive Saturday at the Roell Indoor Track. Seven teams traveled to Davenport to take part in the meet to mark the biggest meet of the young indoor season for the St. Ambrose squads.

Women's Meet

The St. Ambrose women's team got off to a fast start in the 200m dash, with four Bees placing in the top-eight and scoring points; Megan Jansett took the bronze (27.31), Paige Crippes placed fifth (28.01), Leah Rose took seventh (28.57), and Jadie Knecht finished eighth (28.73).

Jansett kept it rolling for the Bees with another medal-finish, this time in the 400m dash. Jansett ran a 1:01.48 to finish second overall in the event. Rose blitzed to a bronze medal in the 60m hurdles with a finish-time of 9.56.

Emma Duncan scored points for the Bees with a fifth-place finish in the 1-mile run, finishing with a time of 5:51.37.

The St. Ambrose women took sixth in the 4x400m relay, the lone relay of the meet, run by Faith Dillman, Duncan, Rileigh FortuneJayne Eilderts. This quartet ran a collective time of 4:51.76 to earn six points for their team.

Lily Olsen had another great meet in the jumps, placing second in the triple jump (9.86m) and eighth in the long jump (4.45m). Tara Ryan performed well in the pole vault, taking third after clearing the 2.70m mark. In the high jump, Olivia Sobieszczyk cleared the 1.45m mark to claim fourth place.

Annah Miller blasted off a 12.06m throw in the shot put to finish fifth overall.

The St. Ambrose women finished with a team total of 69 points, good enough for fourth-place overall at the Battle in the Hive. Loras finished with 171 points to win the meet.

Men's Meet

St. Ambrose dominated the shot put at the Battle in the Hive. Mick Saloninas, an NAIA Indoor qualifier in the shot put a year ago, launched a 16.60m throw to win the event. Jonah Wilson finished right behind Saloninas in second with a 15.59m throw, while Alec Seifert placed fifth with a 14.31m throw.

The Bees took two-thirds of the podium in the triple jump, with freshman Teagan Bowers taking second (13.53m) and Justin Wright placing third (13.0m), while David Arney took fifth (12.93m) and Quantrell Polk placed eighth (12.41m). Isaac Mojica placed in both the high jump and the pole vault, going fifth (1.71m) and seventh (J3.35m), respectively. Justin Griser took second in the high jump after clearing the 1.76m mark.

Will Reemtsma, another NAIA Indoor qualifier from a year ago, had a great day on the track. Reemtsma ran a 49.94 in the 400m dash, the only sub-50 in the event, to take the gold. He also finished sixth in the 200m dash (22.95) and qualified for the finals in the 60m hurdles.

Ben Wilson wasn't far behind Reemtsma in the 400m and 200m, finishing in seventh (51.86) and eighth place (23.13), respectively.

Nolan Rudd and Luke Benes both cracked the top-eight in the 1 mile run, with Rudd finishing in second place (4:23.08) and Benes finishing sixth (4:42.07). Matt Jung also placed in the other long-distance event, finishing eighth in the 3000m with a time of 9:27.02.

The Bees collected two points for their performance in the 4x400m relay. Elijah Boesch, Kale Cartee, Benes, and Rudd finished with a time of 4:00.39.

The Fighting Bees earned a team total of 95.83 points to place third overall in the meet. Loras tallied 163.50 points to win the Battle of the Hive on the men's side, as well.

The St. Ambrose track & field teams will be back at the Roell Indoor Track on Friday to host the Bumble Rumble. Events will begin at 3 p.m.
