Behind the strength of its doubles play, St. Ambrose claimed a pair of season-opening wins at the North Central Invitational Saturday. The Bees defeated Dubuque 7-2 and Concordia-Chicago 8-1. SAU did not drop a doubles match over the two duals.

Against Dubuque, the Bees doubles teams dropped only four games. Maggie Sullivan and Kaylee Camp won 8-1 at No. 1 and Julia Turek and Paige Bily won 8-3 at No. 2.

Hayley Hoffman won in straight sets at No. 3 singles, rolling 6-2, 6-3. Abbie Erramouspe was extended to a third-set super-tiebreaker in her 4-6, 7-5, 10-5 win at No. 4. Sullivan fell in a super-breaker 10-7 at No. 2 singles. SAU benefitted from three wins by default against Dubuque. 

The Bees were even more dominant in their win over Concordia.

St. Ambrose cruised through doubles play with Kate Jones and Turek's 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles proving to be the most competitive. Camp and Sullivan lost just a single game in their 8-1 win at No. 1 and Bily and Hoffman swept their opponents 8-0 at No. 3.

Hoffman (No. 4) and Jones (No. 6) did not drop a game in their respective 6-0, 6-0 wins, and Bily dropped just a single game in her 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3. Erramouspe was victorious 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5. Camp was pushed to a third-set tiebreaker at No. 2 singles after dropping the second set. She rebounded for the 6-3, 3-6, 10-5 win. Turek was forced to retire in her match at No. 1 singles in SAU's lone loss of the meet.

The Bees will make their home debut on Monday, Sept. 5, when they host Loras at noon at Davenport West High School.
