St. Ambrose drops 5-4 decision at Central

In a competitive match up and down the lineup, St. Ambrose fell at Central 5-4 Saturday afternoon. The Bees earned a split of the six singles matches but lost 2-of-3 in doubles to fall to 2-8 on the year.

Three singles matches were extended to third-set super-tiebreakers, and the Dutch claimed wins in two of them.

Maggie Sullivan pulled out a three-set win, taking her match at No. 2 singles 6-4, 3-6, 10-8. In the closest match of the day, Kelsey Jaeger fell in a super-breaker 7-6 (7-3), 2-6, 10-8 at No. 4 singles. Paige Bily also fell in three, dropping the match at No. 5 singles 4-6, 6-2, 10-8.

Kaylee Camp and Hayley Hoffman won in straight sets. Camp won her match at No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-2 and Hoffman won 6-0, 7-5 at No. 6.

Kiersten Housenga was just points away from a win at No. 1 singles, but she fell 7-6 (12-10), 7-5.

The doubles team of Sullivan and Jaeger came through with an 8-4 win. The top team of Housenga and Camp lost 8-6 and the No. 3 team of Hoffman and Gillian Sondgeroth lost 8-3.

The Bees will not play again until their Spring Break trip to Orlando, Fla., Mar. 20-23.
