SAU defeats Cornell to get first win of the fall

St. Ambrose swept doubles play and took five of the six singles matches to earn a 6-1 win over Cornell Saturday afternoon. It was the Bees' first win of the fall.

SAU picked up the doubles point by dominating all three matches.

Kaylee Camp and Kelsey Jaeger swept their match at No. 2 doubles 6-0. The No. 1 team of Kiersten Housenga and Maggie Sullivan and the No. 3 team of Hayley Hoffman and Paige Bily each won by 6-2 scores.

The singles play was much more competitive with three matches extended to a third-set super-tiebreaker.

Alison Hanson rallied after dropping the first set to post a 2-6, 7-6 (7-4), 12-10 win at No. 6 singles. Jaeger also won in a third-set breaker 6-0, 1-6, 10-6 at No. 5.

Three other Bees won in straight sets. Camp dropped just four games in her 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 2. Sullivan won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3 and Lily Malas was victorious 6-4, 7-5 at No. 4.

The lone loss of the afternoon came at No. 1 singles where Housenga fell 2-6, 7-5, 10-7.
