St. Ambrose drops two at Wartburg

St. Ambrose opened its fall season with two deceptive losses in Waverly, Iowa, Sunday. The Bees fell to Wartburg 9-0 before ending the trip with a 7-0 loss to Minnesota State Mankato.

Despite not winning a match, the Bees were competitive up and down the lineup.

Against host Waldorf, the No. 1 doubles team of Kiersten Housenga and Maggie Sullivan fell in a tiebreaker 8-7 (7-3). The No. 2 team of Kaylee Camp and Lily Malas lost 8-4, and Kelsey Jaeger and Alison Hanson dropped their match at No. 3 8-2.

Housenga also dropped a tiebreaker in her 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) loss at No. 1 singles. Malas also forced a second-set breaker in her 6-4, 7-6 (10-8) setback at No. 5.

Camp fell 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 singles, Sullivan lost 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3, Jaeger lost 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4, and Paige Bily fell 6-1, 6-3 at No. 6.

Later in the day, the Bees dropped a pair of third-set super-tiebreakers against Minnesota State.

Bily lost a heartbreaker 12-10 in the super-breaker at No. 6 and Malas fell 10-3 in the third in her match at No. 5.

St. Ambrose will next host Cornell Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
