SAU claims win over Augustana on Senior Night

St. Ambrose put together big wins over Augustana while recognizing a large group of seniors on Senior Day Friday. The Bee men won 161-83 while the women were victorious 159-71.

The SAU women won all nine individual swimming events and both relays. Irene Artabe, Lauren Williams and Bridget O'Grady each won two races.

Artabe won the 50-yard freestyle in 25.12 seconds. Rylie Steinkamp was runner-up in 26.13 seconds. Artabe also won the 100-yard backstroke in 59.29 seconds with Riley Loeffler placing third. Williams won both the 100-yard (54.90 seconds) and 200-yard freestyle (1:58.30) races. Bryn Kiley was third in the 100 free. O'Grady took the 100-yard butterfly in 1:00.99 and the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:06.17. Steinkamp took third in the 100 fly.

Leyre Antonanzas, who was second to O'Grady in the 100 breast in 1:07.97, won the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:07.50. Caitlin Pieroni was third in the 200 IM. 

Grace Bobeldyk touched the wall in 5:15.75 to win the 500-yard freestyle. Molly Duehr was third. Kiley (17:57.13) edged Bobeldyk (18:01.73) to win the 1650-yard freestyle with Amber Warak finishing third.

Kait Zucco won the women's 1-meter diving competition with a score of 180.05. 

Artabe, Williams, Kiley and Bobeldyk won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:41.94, and Antonanzas, O'Grady, Steinkamp and Marin Powell took the 200-yard medley relay in 1:51.27.

Ryan Warrick and Bram Mess each won a pair of individual events for the SAU men. 

Warrick took the 50-yard freestyle in 21.36 seconds with Brett Jones (21.44) and Petter Kolaas placing second and third, respectively. Warrick also won the 100-yard freestyle in 47.30 seconds. Benny Zarhin was third. Mess won both diving competitions. He posted a score of 186.25 in the 1-meter event and a score of 243.65 at 3-meters.

Five different Bees each won a single event. Zarhin was the champion in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:44.10. Leo Edwards (1:45.47) was second and Grant Nelson third. Ryan Joehl won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:51.92. Edwards (4:52.10) again took second and Jonathan Rollwa was third. St. Ambrose also took the top three spots in the 100-yard butterfly. Mikhi Hassim won in 51.94 seconds while Juan Gomez was second and Walter de Jongh third. Sebastian Pereira won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:00.75 with teammate Luke Sproule finishing second in 2:01.30, and de Jongh won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:01.10. Pereira placed third.

Gomez (16:35.86) and Rollwa were second and third, respectively, in the 1650-yard freestyle, and Ryan Safta (54.55 seconds) and Egoitz Munoz Moreno were 2-3 in the 100-yard backstroke.

Zarhin, Jones, Kolaas and Warrick won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:25.44. Hassim, Lucas Ascua, Edwards and Rollwa were second. Joehl, Kolaas, Hassim and Jones won the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:35.55.

St. Ambrose recognized 21 seniors during the meet. Those seniors are: Leo Edwards, Anthony Erramouspe, Isaac Garcia, Rais Hassim, Ryan Joehl, Petter Kolaas, Mason Lee, Grant Nelson and Javier Santiago on the men's side, and Valentina Espinosa, Allison Fellner, Megan Fellner, Jade Hoogestraat, Delaney Janosek, Megan Johnson, Danielle Juco, Maddie LaGrangeCaitlin PieroniMolly SullivanJenny Thomas and Tori Thorne for the women.

The Bees will host the SAU Diving Invitational at Augustana next Friday before competing in the Liberal Arts Conference Championships Feb. 8-11 in Elsah, Ill.
