More records fall in dual at Lewis

Leyre Antonanzas and Irene Artabe combined to break three school records in SAU's dual meet at Lewis Saturday.

Antonanzas broke her own mark in the 200-yard backstroke, winning the event in 2:06.32. She had set the previous record of 2:07.45 at the Luther Invitational in November.

Artabe replaced Antonanzas as the school record-holder in both the 50-yard and 100-yard backstroke events. Artabe's time of 28.30 seconds in the 50 free surpassed the old record of 28.50 seconds. She also won the 100 back in 58.97 seconds, bettering Antonanzas's previous record of 59.41 seconds.

The Bee women combined to win four other additional individual events.

Antonanzas won the 400-yard individual medley in 4:34.10. Teammates Caitlin Pieroni and Allison Fellner placed fourth and fifth, respectively. Bridget O'Grady won both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.22) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:26.13). Molly Duehr was runner-up in the 200 breast and finished third in the 100 breast. Bryn Kiley was the other St. Ambrose winner, taking the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:17.68. Grace Bobeldyk was second in 5:20.28.

Bobeldyk also took second in the 200-yard freestyle. Her time of 1:58.54 was just a half-second behind the first-place finisher. Kiley was third. Artabe was runner-up in the 100-yard butterfly in 59.14 seconds with Bridget O'Grady coming in fourth. Fellner was third and Pieroni fourth in the 200-yard butterfly. Lauren Williams was third in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle races. Marin Powell was fourth in the 100 free. Riley Loeffler took fifth in both the 100 and 200 back.

St. Ambrose also had two teams score in each of the two relays. Artabe, Williams, Kiley and Bobeldyk were second in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Riley Steinkamp, Duehr, Audra Shoop and Powell were third. Antonanzas, O'Grady, Artabe and Williams were runners-up in the 200-yard medley relay. Amanda Beuth, Duehr, Steinkamp and Powell finished third.

Juan Gomez was the lone SAU event winner on the men's side. He claimed first in the 200-yard butterfly in 1:58.28. Luke Sproule was third.

Gomez was also runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:51.27. Jonathan Rollwa was third and Leo Edwards fifth. Sproule added a second-place finish in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:18.55, edging teammate Garret Sims, who finished third. Ryan Joehl settled for second in the 200-yard backstroke with his time of 1:55.79 just a quarter-second behind the winner. David Schneider placed fifth. Sebastian Pereira's time of 53.96 seconds was good for second in the 100-yard butterfly. Javier Santiago was third. Benny Zarhin was runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:46.55. Edwards was fourth and Joehl ended fifth.

Three Bees scored in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle. Ryan Warrick, Petter Kolaas and Brett Jones finished 3-4-5 in the 50 free while Zarhin, Warrick and Jones were third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 100 free.

Rollwa took third in the 1000-yard freestyle as Sam Gillham took fourth. Walter de Jongh was third in the 100-yard breaststroke and fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke. St. Ambrose also earned points from Mikhi Hassim's fourth-place effort in the 100-yard backstroke and Ben Patterson's fourth-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley.

Warrick, Zarhin, Kolaas and Jones were second in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Egoitz Munoz Moreno, Kolaas, Hassim and Warrick were runners-up in the 200-yard medley relay.

The SAU women lost the dual to Lewis 166-108 while the men fell 200.5-77.5. The team will compete at home for the final time this season when the Bees host Augustana at the Davenport Central Natatorium Friday at 6 p.m.
