SAU gets home dual victories over Loras

The St. Ambrose men moved to 4-1 in duals while the women won for the third time this season with victories over Loras Saturday at the Davenport Central Natatorium. The Bees won each of the 22 races.

Rylie Steinkamp and Irene Artabe each won two events in the women's 152-30 win. Steinkamp won the two freestyle sprints, taking the 50-yard freestyle in 26.17 seconds and the 100 free in 57.37 seconds. Artabe was victorious is both the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.08) and the 100-yard butterfly (58.29 seconds). Artabe led a 1-2-3 Bee charge in the 100 fly. Leyre Antonanzas was second in 1:00.66 and Grace Bobeldyk placed third.

Molly Duehr, who placed third behind Steinkamp in the 50 free, won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:47.54. Marin Powell was runner-up to Steinkamp in the 100 free in 58.25 seconds.

In the other freestyle event, the 200 free, Lauren Williams touched the wall first in 2:04.26. Riley Loeffler, who was runner-up to Artabe in the 100 back in 1:06.07, took third in the 200 free. Madeline Piper placed third in the 100 back.

Along with the 100 fly, St. Ambrose also claimed the top three spots in the 100-yard breaststroke. Bridget O'Grady was the winner in a time of 1:07.67. Audra Shoop (1:16.11) was second and Valentina Espinosa finished third.

Caitlin Pieroni's time of 5:13.87 won the 400-yard individual medley. Allison Fellner was second in 5:30.09. Kait Zucco won the 1-meter diving event with a score of 188.90.

Williams, Bobeldyk, Bryn Kiley and Steinkamp won the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:52.00. Duehr, Powell, Loeffler and Madeline Piper were second in 4:00.31. Antonanzas, O'Grady, Artabe and Kiley took the 400-yard medley relay in 4:09.62, with Pieroni, Audra Shoop, Bobeldyk and Libby Moses placing second.

The men cruised to a 158-40 win. Rais Hassim led the Bees to top-three finishes in two events. He won the 100-yard breaststroke in 59.04 seconds. His brother Mikhi Hassim was second in 59.53 seconds and Petter Kolaas was third. Rais Hassim also won the 100-yard butterfly in 52.23 seconds. Javier Santiago (55.54 seconds) was runner-up and Egoitz Munoz Moreno took third.

Leo Edwards was also a two-race winner. He won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:06.54 and the 200 free in 1:49.89. Truitt Landolt was second in the 200 free in 1:54.20 and Tate Kuennen was third.

The Bees had the top three placers in four other men's events - Brett Jones (21.57 seconds), Ryan Warrick (21.91) and Kolaas in the 50-yard freestyle; Leo Edwards (1:49.89), Landolt (1:54.20) and Kuennen in the 200-yard freestyle; Ryan Safta (53.99 seconds), Benny Zarhin (56.61) and Carter Prull in the 100-yard backstroke; and William Walker-Rozo (4:35.85), Tayden Blair (4:43.51) and Sam Gillham in the 400-yard individual medley.

Ryan Joehl was the champion in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.12 seconds. Luke Sproule placed third. Bram Mess won the men's 1-meter diving competition with a score of 209.90.

Zarhin, Jones, Blair and Grant Nelson won the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:15.64. Narrowly edging the second-place team of Warrick, Edwards, Jonathan Rollwa and Safta (3:16.34). Joehl, Kolaas, Rais Hassim and Nelson (3:38.03) took the 400-yard medley relay in another tight finish over Munoz Moreno, Walter de Jongh, Mikhi Hassim and Lucas Ascua (3:38.46).

St. Ambrose will compete in the Luther Invitational next Friday and Saturday in Decorah, Iowa.
