SAU wins CCAC Women's Soccer Tournament

St. Ambrose added a tournament title to its regular-season crown as the Bees defeated No. 23 Olivet Nazarene 1-0 in the championship game of the CCAC Tournament Friday night at the St. Vincent's Athletic Complex. It marked the second CCAC Tournament championship for St. Ambrose, which also won in 2021.

After a very even first half, the game was tied 0-0 entering halftime. Taylor DeSplinter came close to opening the scoring as her shot in the 23rd minute hit the crossbar. Each team recorded four shots in the first half. In the second half, the SAU defense prevented the Tigers from having a shot for the first 25 minutes of the half. The Bees had two shots in the second half, with one of those being the winning goal.

Haillee Wilson's goal off an Isabella Crawford assist inside the final 10 minutes proved to be the difference. Rachel Willette came up with three big saves to earn the win.

The conference tournament championship comes after St. Ambrose won the regular-season championship with a 10-1 league mark. The Bees will now head to the NAIA National Tournament with a 15-4 record and riding a school-record 12-match winning streak.

First-round pairings will be announced Monday as the NAIA Championships get underway Thursday.
