Bees defeat Cougars, to play for CCAC Tournament crown Friday

Thanks to three goals in the second half, St. Ambrose women's soccer defeated Saint Xavier 4-1 Tuesday night in Davenport, Iowa. With this win, the Bees advance to the championship match of the CCAC Tournament Friday.

The Bees found themselves trailing in the first half as Saint Xavier took a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute. Less than two minutes later, Daniya El-Zein scored from a Kaitlyn Brunson assist. The game was tied 1-1 at halftime, with the Bees outshooting the Cougars 13-1.

It did not take long for the Bees to take the lead once the second half was underway. In the 51st minute, Brunson scored from a Taylor DeSplinter assist to give the Bees a 2-1 advantage. Less than five minutes later, El-Zein scored her second goal of the day, as DeSplinter picked up another assist. In the 74th minute, Lauren Bendall scored courtesy of a Maria Luiza Coelho assist to extend the lead to 4-1 for the Bees.

The Bees outshot the Cougars 20-2 during the contest. Rachel Willette recorded one save in the win. This win was the Bees 11th in a row, which extends a program record.

The Bees are next in action on Friday when they host Olivet Nazarene in the finals of the CCAC Tournament. The match starts at 6 p.m.
