Bees clinch CCAC regular-season title, earn bid to Nationals

St. Ambrose women's soccer came from behind to defeat Governors State 2-1 in the final regular season match of the season Saturday. With this win, the Bees won the CCAC regular season championship, and earned an auto-bid for the National Tournament.

Governors State (4-12, 2-9 CCAC) was able to open the scoring and took the lead in the 17th minute. In the 44th minute, SAU (12-4, 10-1 CCAC) was able to equalize. Kaitlyn Brunson scored, and the game was tied 1-1 going into halftime. In the second half, Taylor DeSplinter scored off a Jenna Horst assist in the 61st minute. This goal would go on to be the game-winner.

DeSplinter led SAU with three shots on goal, while Brunson and McKenna Shilevinatz each record two shots on goal of their own. Rachel Willette recorded eight saves during the match.

This was SAU's ninth straight victory, which ties a program record.

The Bees will now turn their attention to the postseason. SAU will open the CCAC Tournament Friday when the Bees host Roosevelt at the St. Vincent's Athletic Complex in a quarterfinal match.
