Bees win regular-season home finale

St. Ambrose women's soccer won their regular-season home finale Tuesday night against St. Francis (Ill.). The Bees scored two goals in the first half to get a 2-0 win in Davenport.

A combination of Kendall Wendt, Taylor DeSplinter, and Grace Kuchar accounted for SAU's first goal of the night in the 27th minute. Wendt slipped a ball past the St. Francis defense, DeSplinter controlled the pass and sent a cross into the box. Kuchar was there waiting to give St. Ambrose a 1-0 lead. The Bees doubled their lead just before halftime. Kaitlyn Brunson scored in the 40th minute from a tough angle on the left side of the box to give SAU a 2-0 advantage heading into the break.

Kuchar had the best chance for St. Ambrose in the second half. Her free kick in the 55th minute hit off the crossbar. The SAU defense limited the Fighting Saints to just three shots in the period to get a fourth straight shutout victory.

Rachel Willette was credited with one save in the win. McKenna Shilevinatz and Abigail Goff helped control the midfield for the Bees, and both recorded a shot. Kuchar and DeSplinter finished with four shots apiece, and Brunson and Adriane Latham had two. Mary Evans and Lauren Bendall also had shot attempts.

St. Ambrose will look to stay atop of the conference standings as they face Viterbo next. SAU will travel to La Crosse, Wisconsin on October 24 to take on the V-Hawks at 3:30 p.m.
