St. Ambrose wins on the road against Roosevelt

St. Ambrose women's soccer scored three goals and limited Roosevelt to just two shots on target for a 3-0 victory Wednesday night in Arlington Heights, Ill. at Morris Field.

The Bees had early chances to start the game with attempts from Kaitlyn Brunson, Taylor DeSplinter, and Daniya El-Zein in the first seven minutes. Rachel Willette stopped a Laker shot attempt in the 9th minute to keep the game scoreless. SAU broke through in the 36th minute. DeSplinter found Brunson, who unleashed a shot from the left side of the box that hit the far post and bounced in for a 1-0 lead. Willette turned away another shot by Roosevelt in the 37th minute to keep St. Ambrose in the lead. The Bees doubled their lead just before halftime when Haillee Wilson's shot deflected off a defender and looped over the RU keeper in the 45th minute for a 2-0 halftime advantage.

SAU added to their lead coming out of the break, when DeSplinter found Kendall Wendt in the 46th minute to make it 3-0. The Bees continued to search for goals with Jenna Horst, DeSplinter, and McKenna Shilevinatz recording shots in the first ten minutes of the second half. Wilson had a chance for a second goal in the 63rd, but her shot hit off the crossbar. St. Ambrose's defense was strong in the second half, allowing just two shot attempts by the Lakers, which both went wide, to get a 3-0 shutout victory.

DeSplinter had six shots, followed by Brunson with four, and Wilson with three. El-Zein, Wendt, Horst, Shilevinatz, Mary Evans, Adriane Latham, and Abigail Goff had one apiece. Willette was credited with two saves in the win.

St. Ambrose will look to keep pace in the conference on Saturday, October 14, when they face co-CCAC leader Trinity Christian at noon in Palos Heights, Ill.
