Kuchar's brace helps Bees escape RedHawks

Two second-half goals from Grace Kuchar helped St. Ambrose women's soccer escape with a 2-1 victory Tuesday night against Indiana Northwest in Davenport at the St. Vincent's Athletic Complex.

After a scoreless first half, SAU got on the board in the 51st minute. Kaitlyn Brunson found Kuchar to give the Bees a 1-0 lead. Just two minutes later, Kuchar struck again. This time Daniya El-Zein provided the assist for the two-goal lead. St. Ambrose continued the attack on the RedHawk defense, but the IUNW keeper was up to the task. The RedHawks got one back in the 86th minute from a long strike by Kelly Landry to make it 2-1. St. Ambrose was able to hold on for the last four minutes to take the win.

The Bees had plenty of chances in the first half, outshooting the RedHawks 13-2 in the period. Taylor DeSplinter and Mia Hefner had the best opportunities. DeSplinter's header in the 8th minute hit off the crossbar, and Hefner's shot hit off the post in the 36th minute leading to the 0-0 halftime score.

Rachel Willette was credited with five saves in the win. DeSplinter finished with eight shots, three of which hit the woodwork. Hefner and Abigail Goff recorded three shots apiece. El-Zein, Kuchar, McKenna Shilevinatz, Adriane Latham, and Kendall Wendt each had two shots.

St. Ambrose will be back in action on Saturday, October 7th, facing Holy Cross in Davenport at 2:30 p.m.
