St. Ambrose dominant in win over Judson

Four goals in each half and a 26-9 edge in shots led to a dominating 8-2 win for St. Ambrose women's soccer against Judson Wednesday night at the St. Vincent's Athletic Complex in Davenport. Kaitlyn Brunson netted a hat trick, and five other Bees scored in the match to give SAU a conference victory.

SAU (5-4, 3-1 CCAC) got on the board in the 15th minute on a score from Brunson. St. Ambrose would double their lead in the 24th minute with a penalty kick. After a Judson player was called for a foul in the box, Taylor DeSplinter stepped up and converted from the spot for a 2-0 lead. The Bees continued to roll, adding two more scores before the end of the half. In the 32nd minute, Daniya El-Zein played a through ball that found DeSplinter, and DeSplinter crossed the ball into the box, finding Brunson for her second goal of the night. Two minutes later, St. Ambrose made it 4-0 when Brunson slotted a pass to Lauren Bendall, who finished the chance for a four-goal halftime lead.

Judson (2-3-2, 1-1-1 CCAC) found some momentum coming out of the break, scoring goals in the 52nd and 54th minutes to cut the SAU lead to 4-2. But the Bees responded in the 56th minute with Brunson's third goal of the evening. Kendall Wendt made it 6-2 in the 64th minute when her shot deflected off a defender into the goal. St. Ambrose got their final two goals of the match late in the half. Maria Luiza Coelho scored in the 86th minute off an assist from Grace Kuchar, and Jenna Horst scored in the 87th on a pass from Bendall for the 8-2 final.

Rachel Willette finished with three saves in the win, and the defense of Mary Evans, Adriane Latham, Allie Govert, Genevieve Bowyer, and El-Zein limited Judson to five shots on goal, with help from midfielders McKenna Shilevinatz, Abigail Goff, and Isabella Crawford.

St. Ambrose will be back at home on Tuesday, October 3 at 6 p.m. to face Indiana Northwest.
