Bees fall in conference clash at No. 19 Olivet Nazarene

A goal in the 40th minute was the difference in a conference battle between the Bees and the Tigers Wednesday night in Bourbonnais, Ill. Nineteenth-ranked Olivet Nazarene downed St. Ambrose 1-0 at the Snowbarger Complex.

The game was physical throughout as the two teams combed for 32 fouls on the night. St. Ambrose had the first three chances of the match but Jenna Horst's shot went wide, Mary Evans' attempt was blocked, and Kaitlyn Brunson's shot was off the mark. Rachel Willette stood strong in goal, producing saves in the 15th, 17th, and 23rd minutes to thwart the Tiger attack. Kendall Wendt and Taylor DeSplinter had header attempts for the Bees in the 25th and 27th minutes, but both were off the mark. The home team found the breakthrough in the 40th minute on a shot from Skylar Bos. The Tigers almost doubled their lead just before half, but a shot from ONU's Camille Cote hit the crossbar.

St. Ambrose pressed for an equalizer at the start of the second half, but Abigail Goff's shot went high. The Bees had a couple of chances in the 54th minute, but Genevieve Bowyer's shot was saved by an Olivet defender, and Adriane Latham had her attempt saved by the Tiger keeper. SAU managed just one more shot in the half as Brunson went wide right in the 85th minute leading to the 1-0 win for ONU.

Olivet outshot St. Ambrose 15-13 with a 7-2 advantage on goal. Willette was credited with six saves in the loss.

St. Ambrose will have another conference matchup on Saturday, September 23rd. The Bees will take on Saint Xavier at 2:30 p.m. at the St. Vincent's Athletic Complex in Davenport.
