Bees fall to No. 8 Aquinas on the road

St. Ambrose women's soccer traveled to Grand Rapids, Mich. Saturday afternoon to take on the No. 8 Aquinas Saints. The home team scored twice in both halves to take the match 4-1 over the Bees.

The Saints (1-0-1) were on the offensive to start, forcing Rachel Willette into two saves within the first ten minutes. A goal from Sydney Shenk in the 11th minute put Aquinas up 1-0. SAU (0-3) was able to respond in the 20th minute when Abigail Goff found Mary Evans to tie the game at 1-all. Taylor DeSplinter had a chance in the 27th minute, but her shot went wide. AQ found a score in the 41st minute to take a 2-1 halftime lead.

St. Ambrose couldn't get much going in the second half, recording just two shots in the period compared to Aquinas' 14. The Saints scored in the 59th and 60th minutes for the 4-1 final.

Willette finished with nine saves on the day. Evans, DeSplinter, Jenna Horst, Delainey Williams, and Kaitlyn Brunson recorded shots for the Bees.

St. Ambrose will play their third straight road game as they travel to Des Moines, Iowa to take on Grand View on September 6th. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
