Second-half comeback propels Bees to victory

Second-half comeback propels Bees to victory

St. Ambrose used a strong second half in its 3-2 win Saturday over Holy Cross in Davenport. The win propelled the Bees to a record of 5-2-3 overall and 4-0-2 in CCAC play. Holy Cross fell to 3-3-6 overall and 2-3-2 in the CCAC.

Following a scoreless first half, Holy Cross opened the scoring through Nicole Cook in the 48th minute. However, St. Ambrose would have an instant response. Just three minutes later, Kaitlyn Brunson found the back of the net from a corner kick to equalize for the Bees. Just five minutes after that, Taylor DeSplinter scored the goal to put the Bees ahead. Kendall Wendt then scored inside the box to make it three unanswered goals for the Bees. The Saints were able to score with a few minutes left, but the Bees defended well and emerged victorious.

St. Ambrose had an 11-3 advantage in shots for the second half, and an 18-8 advantage over the whole game. They also had a 17-3 advantage in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Rachel Willette was credited with three saves during the game.

St. Ambrose returns home next Saturday when they face St. Francis (Ill.) at 1 p.m. in a CCAC contest.
