Brunson nets first-half hat trick in win over Lakers

On a warm night in Davenport, the St. Ambrose offense, specifically Kaitlyn Brunson, was on fire. Brunson scored a first half hat trick in under 30 minutes, and three other Bees found the back of the net as SAU rolled to a 6-1 CCAC victory over the Roosevelt Lakers.

The Bees got it going early as Brunson netted her first goal of the night in the 6th minute off a pass from Mary Evans. Brunson scored her second in the 18th minute off a free kick after a Roosevelt foul. Just five minutes later, Alyssa Schnichner found Brunson to give St. Ambrose a 3-0 lead with 22:42 on the clock. Abigail Goff made it 4-0 Bees in the 25th minute after her shot hit off the left post and rolled in. Roosevelt found the back of the net just a minute later to make it 4-1 at halftime.

Taylor DeSplinter would add her name to the scoresheet in the 59th minute, finishing a cross from Evans to make it 5-1 SAU. St. Ambrose's final goal of the night came in the 78th minute when Isabella Crawford sent a long ball forward, and Margaret Hamilton was able to lift her shot over the Laker keeper for the 6-1 win.

Rachel Willette made four saves in the victory. Willette, Evans, and Allie Govert played the full 90 for St. Ambrose. 11 Bees recorded shots in the match; Hamilton led the way with five, and Brunson finished with four.

SAU will travel to Calumet on Saturday for another CCAC game at 11 a.m.
