Bees shutout by Panthers

Bees shutout by Panthers

St. Ambrose stayed with DI Northern Iowa for 42 minutes Sunday afternoon in Cedar Falls, Iowa. But the Panthers would prove to be too much as they rolled to a 5-0 victory over the Bees.

SAU is now 1-2 early in the season, while UNI has a 3-0-1 record.

Northern Iowa rattled off 20 shots in the first half, but Molly McLaughlin kept the Panthers at bay until the 43rd minute. UNI's Sydney Burskey launched a shot that hit off the post and in to give Northern Iowa a 1-0 lead. The Panthers would tack on another goal just before the halftime whistle to take a 2-0 lead at the break. SAU's Kaitlyn Brunson managed a shot in the 22nd minute, but it was saved by the UNI keeper.

The Panthers would add to their lead early in the second half when a free kick hit off an SAU player and into the back of the net for a 3-0 lead at the 47-minute mark. Hailee Wilson was able to get a shot off for the Bees in the 53rd minute, but her attempt went high. Northern Iowa would add goals in the 60th minute and 68th minute to take a 5-0 lead. St. Ambrose got chances from Bella Grisafi in the 68th minute and Lauren Bendall in the 73rd, but both attempts were saved and UNI would take the shutout victory.

McLaughlin finished with 12 saves in 90 minutes of action. Defenders Adriane Latham and Natalie Miller were the other two Bees that played the full 90.

St. Ambrose will continue with non-conference action on Wednesday, traveling to Culver-Stockton for a 5 p.m. game.
