Two first-half goals enough for SAU in win over Grand View

St. Ambrose got in the win column on Thursday night at the St. Vincent's Athletic Complex. After dropping their season opener, SAU used two-first half goals to get by Grand View, 2-1.

The Bees move to 1-1, while the Vikings drop to 0-2.

St. Ambrose got two chances from Hailee Wilson in the early minutes but both attempts were off the mark. Keeper Molly McLaughlin came up with a save against Grand View's Sammy Milani in the 10th minute to keep the score even. SAU got the breakthrough in the 17th minute when a cross from the right side hit off a Vikings defender and into the net for the 1-0 lead. Taylor DeSplinter would add to the St. Ambrose lead in the 41st minute. Her shot from outside the 18-yard box found the lower left corner to give the Bees a 2-0 halftime lead.

Grand View would get one back in the 54th minute. After a foul was called in the box on St. Ambrose, McKenzie Langstraat's penalty kick hit off the top of the crossbar and bounced in to make it 2-1. The Bees would close it out from there with Rachel Willette making a save in the 78th minute, and the defense not giving the Vikings any more chances.

McLaughlin and Willette both finished with one save. Mary Evans, Adriane Latham, Margaret Hamilton, DeSplinter, Wilson, Bella Grisafi, and Kaitlyn Brunson recorded shots for St. Ambrose, giving them a 10-6 edge over Grand View.

St. Ambrose will travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa on Sunday afternoon to take on Division I Northern Iowa. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will be available on ESPN+.
