St. Ambrose drops season opener at No. 7 Marian

St. Ambrose faced a challenging start to their season, traveling to No. 7 Marian on Saturday night. The Bees (0-1) couldn't keep pace with the Knights (1-0), as the home team took the victory 4-2. 

Marian took a 2-0 lead less than 15 minutes into the game after goals from Camryn Gietl and Allie Schlom. St. Ambrose responded in the 20th minute with Jenna Horst finding Taylor DeSplinter to get SAU on the board. Rachel Willette made three saves to close out the half to keep the deficit at one heading into the break. 

Allie Schlom struck again for the Knights in the 49th minute to give Marian a 3-1 lead. The home team made it 4-1 in the 64th minute with Scholm finding Erin Oleksak for the score. DeSplinter got her second goal of the night for the Bees in the 87th minute off an assist from Margaret Hamilton to account for the final score. 

Willette finished with five saves for St. Ambrose. Horst, DeSplinter, and Kaitlyn Brunson recorded shots for SAU. 

The Bees will host Grand View on August 25th at 8 p.m.
