SAU beats St. Francis, advances to CCAC final

Two minutes and 17 seconds. 

That's all it took for St. Ambrose to earn a repeat trip to the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) final. St. Ambrose posted two first-half goals and earned their 10th shutout of the season to defeat St. Francis (Ill.), 2-0, in the CCAC semifinals Tuesday night in Davenport. 

SAU got it going early when Riley Garcia headed the ball into the back of the net off a Morgan Wahlen corner kick in just the 3rd minute. The Bees had a chance to add to their lead just minutes later, but Adriane Latham's shot went wide. Kaitlyn Brunson had an opportunity in the 11th minute, but her attempt also went wide. In the 20th minute, Wahlen would score her 16th goal of the season to give St. Ambrose a 2-0 lead. SAU outshot St. Francis 12-2 in the period. 

The Bees would control the second half, using a 9-2 advantage in shots and a 6-1 mark in corner kicks to advance to the trophy match. 

The St. Ambrose backline of Erin SmothersHaley SalanderAdriane Latham, and Natalie Miller was dominant, only allowing four shots by the Saints. Rachel Willette was credited with one save in the victory.

10 Bees recorded at least one shot in the game. Garcia led the way with six, and Taylor DeSplinter had three. Tori TimermanAbigail Goff, Brunson, and Wahlen each had two.

SAU will face Trinity Christian on Friday, November 12th for the conference championship at 1 p.m. in Palos Heights, Ill.. Trinity Christian beat Cardinal Stritch 5-1 in the other semifinal. The Bees won the regular-season matchup, defeating the Trolls 2-1 in double-overtime on September 28th.
