Bees beat Bruins on Senior Day

Molly McLaughlin stopped a penalty in the first overtime, and Morgan Wahlen converted a PK in the second overtime to give St. Ambrose a 1-0 victory against Bellevue University Saturday afternoon in Davenport. The Bees are now 12-5-1 overall heading into the CCAC conference tournament. 

The first half saw just three total shots - two from Taylor DeSplinter for St. Ambrose and one from Bellevue that was saved by Rachel Willette

At halftime, SAU honored four seniors - Haley SalanderErin SmothersTori Timerman, and Morgan Wahlen - for their contributions to the program. 

Wahlen got the first chance in the second half, but her shot attempt was saved in the 49th minute. Riley Garcia put a header wide in the 62nd, Kaitlyn Brunson's shot went high in the 64th minute, and Mary Evans put an opportunity wide in the 65th minute. A Keeli Frerichs shot went wide in the 83rd minute, and Bellevue got a last opportunity in the 90th minute, but McLaughlin made the save.

After a goalless 90 minutes, the visitors got an opportunity for a score when SAU was whistled for a foul in the box in the 92nd minute. Bellevue's Bruna Bielski stepped up to take the penalty, but McLaughlin was up for the challenge, turning away her kick. The Bees got two chances from Timerman and Wahlen in the first overtime, but both went wide. 

It was St. Ambrose's turn for a penalty opportunity in the second overtime. The Bruins were called for a foul in the box in the 103rd minute, and Wahlen used her left foot to slot the ball past the keeper for the win. 

The SAU defense of Genevieve BowyerAllie GovertAdriane Latham, Salander, and Smothers - limited Bellevue to just three shots in the match. Willette was credited with one save, and McLaughlin had two. 

The Bees will now turn their attention to the postseason. Their next game will be on November 5th. Opponent, location, and time are to be determined.
