SAU wins fourth straight

St. Ambrose earned their fourth straight CCAC victory and got another shutout on Saturday afternoon defeating the University of St. Francis (Ill.), 3-0, at Memorial Stadium in Joliet, Ill. The win keeps the Bees in the top of the conference standings with a 6-2 mark and 8-4 overall. 

SAU got the scoring started early. The Bees earned a corner kick in the 4th minute, and Morgan Wahlen passed it short to Erin Smothers who gave it back to Wahlen. Wahlen then rocketed a left-footed shot past the USF keeper for an early 1-0 lead. The goal was Wahlen's team-leading eighth goal of the season. Rachel Willette kept St. Ambrose ahead by making three saves in 10 minutes. Adriane Latham had a chance to add to the SAU lead, but her header went wide in the 31st minute. Willette made back-to-back stops on Hailey Bartlaga in the 39th minute to keep the shutout going. The Bees would extend their lead late in the first half when Mary Evans scored off a free-kick from 25-yards out. 

The two St. Ambrose goal scorers would help with the third goal of the day. Taylor DeSplinter scored a left-footed goal in the 54th minute after Mary Evans sent a pass to the top of the box that Wahlen flicked on to DeSplinter for the score. Kaitlyn BrunsonAbigail GoffKeeli FrerichsGrace KucharRiley Garcia, and Evans recorded shots in the second half. Willette saved five shots in the half and finished with 10 saves in the game. 

The Bees will be back at home on October 12th to take on IU-Northwest at 6 p.m.
