SAU suffers defeat at Roosevelt

St. Ambrose recorded 20 shots but managed just one goal as they fell 2-1 to Roosevelt University on Wednesday night at Morris Field. 

The Lakers (5-3, 2-1 CCAC) got on the board early with a goal in just the 4th minute. The Bees (4-4, 2-2 CCAC) responded in the 20th minute as Taylor DeSplinter found Riley Garcia for the tying score. The home team had a chance to regain the lead in the 31st minute, but the RU penalty kick went wide. Grace Kuchar had a chance to give SAU the lead in the 42nd minute, but her attempt hit the crossbar, and the teams would head into halftime knotted at one. 

Abigail Goff would get the first scoring opportunity in the second half, but her shot was saved in the 50th minute. Roosevelt got the game-winner in the 62nd minute from Anahi Cerda, scoring from a free-kick. St. Ambrose would get looks late for an equalizer, but Morgan Wahlen had her shot saved in the 83rd minute, and Garcia's attempt went high in the 88th.

Rachel Willette and Molly McLaughlin split time in goal with Willette registering five saves in the first half, and McLaughlin was credited with one in the second half. Erin SmothersAdriane LathamNatalie MillerKeeli Frerichs, Wahlen, and DeSplinter played the full 90 for the Bees. 

SAU will look to rebound on Saturday afternoon as they take on Calumet St. Joseph in Davenport. Kick off is scheduled for noon.
