Wahlen nets winner in double-overtime against Cougars

Morgan Wahlen scored the game-winner in the 104th minute for St. Ambrose on Saturday afternoon in Chicago. Wahlen's goal gave SAU (4-3. 2-1 CCAC) a 3-2 double-overtime victory over Saint Xavier (0-6, 0-2 CCAC).

After a Cougar goal in the 7th minute, Wahlen tied it up with her first of the day after converting a penalty kick in the 22nd minute. The Bees would take the lead four minutes later when Keeli Frerichs got the ball to Tori Timerman who scored off a deflection. SAU would take the 2-1 lead into halftime. 

St. Ambrose had the first two chances of the second half, but Frerichs and Mary Evans had their shot attempts saved. Saint Xavier tied it up at two in the 54th minute with a goal from Peyton Fox. Alyssa Schichner was denied by the SXU keeper in the 67th and 68th minutes. SAU had a chance to go ahead in the 70th minute, but Timerman's shot hit off the post. Molly McLaughlin kept the teams even at two, making a save in the 81st minute, and the game would head to extra time. 

Kaitlyn Brunson had the lone shot in the first overtime period, and Erin Smothers found Wahlen in the second overtime for the winning score. 

Rachel Willette made one save in 45 minutes in goal. McLaughlin was credited with two saves in the win. 

SAU will be on the road once again, heading to Chicago, Ill. on September 22nd for a game against Roosevelt at 6 p.m.
