St. Ambrose falls late at Olivet Nazarene

St. Ambrose traveled to Bourbonnais, Ill. to take on Olivet Nazarene on Tuesday night. A late goal from the Tigers (2-4-1, 2-0 CCAC) gave them a 1-0 victory. The loss drops the Bees to 3-3 on the year and 1-1 in the CCAC. 

SAU got two chances on goal to start the game, but Kaitlyn Brunson's shot attempt was saved in the 6th minute, and her header went wide in the 7th. Rachel Willette saved a chance by the Tigers in the 10th minute to keep the game even. ONU had an opportunity to take the lead in the 24th minute, but the shot from Susanna Lindquist hit the post. Morgan WahlenAllie Govert, and Grace Kuchar each had their shot attempts saved in the first half as the teams would go into the break tied at zero. 

Riley Garcia had the first opportunity coming out of halftime, but her shot couldn't get past the Tiger keeper. Garcia, Wahlen, and Keeli Frerichs had chances in the 59th minute, but they were unable to find the back of the net. ONU would get the breakthrough in the 83rd minute with Abbey Cash scoring for the 1-0 lead. The Bees would push for an equalizer, but Erin Smothers had her shot saved, and Taylor DeSplinter and Mary Evans had their attempts blocked. 

St. Ambrose outshot Olivet Nazarene 24-11 but couldn't find the back of the net. Brunson finished with seven shots followed by Wahlen with five. Willette made three saves in the loss. 

SAU will look to rebound on Saturday, taking on Saint Xavier University in Chicago at 4 p.m.
