Bees defeated by No. 21 Missouri Valley

St. Ambrose traveled to Marshall, Mo. on Monday afternoon to take on No. 21 Missouri Valley. The Bees (2-2) were unable to garner an upset, falling 3-2, against the Vikings (3-1). 

The home team jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, scoring in the 12th and 17th minutes of the game. SAU was able to get a goal back in the 23rd minute when a deflection from an MVC defender ended up in the back of the net. The Vikings would retake a two-goal lead in the 34th minute. Molly McLaughlin made a save in the 38th to keep the score 3-1 at halftime. 

The Bees looked to cut into the deficit early in the second half. Alyssa Schichner had her shot attempted saved, and Riley Garcia had two shots blocked in the 50th minute. Rachel Willette kept the deficit a two after making a save in the 65th minute. St. Ambrose made it 3-2 on a Genevieve Bowyer score in the 83rd minute. Morgan Wahlen found Bowyer in the box for the score. SAU would push for the tying goal in the 89th minute, but Kaitlyn Brunson's shot attempt was saved, and no one was able to get on the end of a Mary Evans corner kick. 

The Bees were outshot 14-6 for the game but were even in corner kick attempts with five. 

McLaughlin made four saves in the first half, and Willette was credited with three in the second half. 

SAU's next game will be on Saturday, September 11th at 2:30 p.m. in Davenport. St. Ambrose will begin conference play, taking on CCAC opponent, Indiana South Bend.
