Walter scores OT game-winner against Tigers

Senior captain Lisa Walter scored the game-winner in the 96th minute on Saturday evening in Bourbonnais, Ill. to give St. Ambrose a 1-0 victory over (RV) Olivet Nazarene.

SAU had a few chances to get on the board early in the game. Natalie Miller's chance went wide, Morgan Wahlen's attempt was saved, Mia Lisanti had her shot blocked, Adriane Latham's opportunity was saved, and Mary Evans had a shot that went wide. Molly McLaughlin kept the game even in the 28th minute making a save on ONU's Katie Knutte. Grace Kuchar had a chance in the 37th minute to get on the board, but her shot was blocked. McLaughlin made consecutive saves in the 38th minutes as the teams would go into the half deadlocked.

Latham had an early chance in the second half off a corner kick from Wahlen, but her header was saved by ONU keeper Samantha Tuuk. McLaughlin made saves in the 62nd and 78th minutes, and the game remained 0-0. Wahlen had a chance to score the winner in the 88th minute, but the Tigers made a defensive save and the teams would head to overtime.

One chance is all the Bees needed in OT. After a shot for Olivet went wide in the 93rd minute, Lisanti found Walter in the 96th to score the game-winner. The win moves St. Ambrose to 8-6 overall and 6-4 in the CCAC.

McLaughlin made seven saves in the win. McLaughlin along with the backline of Latham, Haley Salander, and Erin Smothers played all 96 minutes.

St. Ambrose will face ONU once again in the CCAC Tournament quarterfinals in Davenport on Tuesday, April 6th at 5 p.m.
