SAU stumbles against Grand View

Defensive miscues from St. Ambrose allowed Grand View University to come away with a 2-1 win on Saturday afternoon in Davenport, Iowa. The Bees are now 6-5 overall, while GVU moves to 8-5-1.

The visiting Vikings got on the board first - scoring in the 8th minute from Samantha Milani. The Bees would get a chance to even it up in the 15th minute but Riley Garcia's attempt was saved. Neither team had many opportunities to score until a corner kick from Erin Smothers late in the half. Mia Lisanti's chance was saved by the Viking defense, but Grace Kuchar was able to find the ball in the chaos and put it in the back of the net. The teams would head into halftime tied at one.

The second half saw both teams playing in the midfield with neither one seeing many opportunities to score until the 64th minute. Lisanti's header from a Garcia corner kick hit the crossbar for the chance to go ahead. Grand View would take a 2-1 lead in the 86th minute off a free-kick from Gracie Bernard. The Bees had one last effort to send the game into overtime, but Lisanti's shot was saved in the 90th minute.

The Bees had a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks and outshot their opponent by eight. Molly McLaughlin was credited with two saves in the loss.

SAU will return to conference play on March 27th, taking on Holy Cross College at 10 a.m. in Notre Dame, Ind.
