Bees blank Saint Xavier

St. Ambrose used two first-half goals and three in the second to defeat St. Xavier University 5-0 on Wednesday afternoon at the St. Vincent's Complex in Davenport, Iowa.

Things were quiet for the first 15 minutes, but in the 17th Natalie Miller dribbled down the left side and placed a pass to Tori Timerman who found the back of the net. The Bees would get another goal just before halftime. Morgan Wahlen took a corner kick for SAU and passed the ball to Erin Smothers who gave it back to Wahlen. Wahlen's shot would beat the keeper to give St. Ambrose a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Riley Garcia would get on the scoresheet in the 58th minute, and just five minutes later she would strike again, scoring from a free-kick. Margaret Hamilton finished the scoring for the Bees in the 86th minute off an Alyssa Schichner assist.

The midfield of Wahlen, Lisa Walter, and Keeli Frerichs helped SAU control the game against SXU. The backline was strong as well only allowing four shots in the game.

The Bees outshot their opponent 17-4 and had a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks. Molly McLaughlin was credited with two saves in the win.

SAU will take on Cardinal Stritch Saturday afternoon with a 3 p.m kick in Davenport.
