Bees end season with loss to Benedictine in the Heart Championship

St. Ambrose's season ended with a 18-7 loss in the Heart Championship game to the (#5) Benedictine Ravens. SAU ended with a (9-3, 4-1) overall and conference record. Going forward, the Bees continue to look for a way to get over the hump of Benedictine.

The Bees had a very slow start in the first half and came up short in their rally comeback in the fourth quarter. Benedictine scored 12 straight before SAU could get on the board. Their first goal of the game came from Katie McGlynn in the second period at the 12:05 mark. That would be the only goal of the half for the Bees. SAU would head into halftime down 15-1.

However, the pages would turn for the Bees after halftime as they would put on a show in the fourth. St. Ambrose would only allow three goals in the third period while not allowing any in the last period of play. The Bees would go on to score five unanswered goals in the last 15 minutes of play. Even with this surge of momentum, SAU still came up short. The Ravens won the eventual final 18-7.

Anabelle Brown led offensively for the Bees with three goals. Katie McGlynn scored two while Jayden Ambrose and Sarah Diehl each scored one. Delaney Austad collected two assists which puts her just short of the 100 career points marker. Austad has collected 99 points throughout her career. Claire Jeffers gathered one assist on the afternoon.

Jayden Ambrose collected two draw controls.

Saige Carlton played 57:34 minutes in goal and secured nine saves and four ground balls. Carlton also collected two caused turnovers. Julieanna Hess played the reminder of time and faced one shot.

This concludes the season for St. Ambrose (9-3, 4-1) overall. The Bees had a successful season with nine Bees earning All-Conference honors. Abby Vanderwarren tabbed Newcomer of the Year in the Heart of America. Lauren Hoesly became the all-time career points leader as well as Heart Offensive Player of the Week honors. Anabelle Brown captured her 100 career points as a junior and earned Heart Offensive Player of the week honors. Sophie McPeek also earned Heart Player of the Week honors on the defensive side of the ball.
