Bees find themselves in the Heart Championship match for second consecutive year

The Heart of America Tournament Semifinal game was all St. Ambrose. The Bees won over Culver-Stockton on Wednesday afternoon 15-4. This improves SAU's overall record to 9-2. The Bees take home field advantage to another level, tabbing a 6-1 home record this season. St. Ambrose and Culver-Stockton matched up a week ago to this day and that was a back and forth game with the Bees taking the eventual decision 13-10. All thought it would be much similar between the no. 2 seeded Bees and no. 3 seeded Wildcats. However, SAU proved to write a different script.

Katie MyGlynn started the scoring for the Bees at the 11:51 mark in the first period. The Wildcats would score not even a minute later. From then on, the rest was history for the Wildcats. Time and time again, St. Ambrose would put the Wildcats away. Anabelle Brown, Lauren Hoesly, and Sarah Diehl would go on to tack three more goals before the end of the period. After those goals, the Bees led 4-1.

SAU played phenomenal defense, only holding Culver-Stockton to six shots in the second period. The Bees shot the ball eight times and connected on three of those attempts to extend their lead. Just before half, the Bees were up 7-1.

For the rest of the way, St. Ambrose would allow the Wildcats little breathing room. The Wildcats were only able to score three goals the remainder of the game. St. Ambrose would add on five in the third period alone. Headed into the forth, the Bees dominated at 12-2.

Much of the final 15 minutes of play would serve as a running clock for both teams. Lauren Hoesly, Anabelle Brown, and Jayden Ambrose would score for the Bees to ensure their victory. The eventual final would fall as a win for the Bees in a 15-4 fashion.

Offensively for the Bees, Sarah Diehl notched a team high four goals. Katie McGlynn and Lauren Hoesly added three each as Jayden Ambrose and Anabelle Brown scored two. Claire Jeffers scored a lone goal. Hoesly and Delaney Austad each added two assists. Brown and Diehl each tabbed one assist.

Abby Taaffe tied for a team high four ground balls. She also had a team leading four caused turnovers. Josie Mork was right behind with three caused turnovers.

Jayden Ambrose, Abby Vanderwarren and Sarah Diehl recorded three ground balls each.

Saige Carlton played all 60 minutes in net for the Bees. She secured eight saves and four ground balls.

The Bees will travel to Atchison, Kan. this weekend for the Heart Final matchup with Benedictine College. This will be a rematch from last year's Heart Final. Benedictine earned the no. 1 seed in the Heart postseason tournament. Game time is still TBD.
