SAU women’s lacrosse remains undefeated in conference play after a 13-10 decision over Culver-Stockton

The St. Ambrose Fighting Bees remain in the winning column after a tight knit game throughout on Wednesday afternoon at St. Vincent's Athletic Complex. The Bees prove time and time again to be dominant in the Heart of America Athletic Conference earning a 13-10 victory over the Culver-Stockton College Wildcats. SAU is now (8-1, 4-0), as they just played their last regular season home game.

The Bees and Wildcats nearly played dead even throughout the first 30 minutes of action with St. Ambrose scoring six in the first half. The Wildcats were not far behind by scoring five themselves. Three goals each came in the first and second period for SAU. The three goals in the first were scored by Claire Jeffers and Sarah Diehl who tallied two. Then, Anabelle Brown and Katie McGlynn joined in on the action. They scored the first two goals of the second period for the Bees. Going into halftime, the Bees led 6-5 after a late second quarter goal from Claire Jeffers with :31 seconds left on the clock.

Just after halftime, the Bees found their offensive power and tallied five straight goals. Culver-Stockton would not quit as they rallied and scored two of their own at the end of the period. The Bees still led 11-7 going into the final period of play.

Culver-Stockton would close in on St. Ambrose but the Bees defense would never fold. To end the game, the Wildcats scored three more times but never making it closer than a three-goal game. The Bees kept pace and scored twice more to close the door for any hope for Culver-Stockton. The final decision 13-10, keeping the Bees undefeated in conference.

Offensively, Claire Jeffers scored four while Sarah Diehl scored three. Anabelle Brown chipped in two while Raegan Dotterer, Katie McGlynn, Lauren Hoesly, and Delaney Austad each had one. Hoesly led the team with two assists. Jeffers added one to the stat book.

Jayden Ambrose, Anabelle Brown, and Claire Jeffers all tied for three draw controls on the evening. Josie Mork collected three ground balls for the bees.

Defensively, Abby Taaffe caused six turnovers which was good for a team high. Following her was Sophie McPeek with three caused turnovers.

Saige Carlton played all 60 minutes between the posts for SAU. In that time, she tallied four saves and four ground balls.

Next, SAU looks to continue their undefeated conference streak as they travel to Legacy Field in Atchison. Kan. for a match up with the Benedictine Ravens. First draw is slated for 4 p.m. Both St. Ambrose and Benedictine remain unbeaten in conference play with records of 4-0. The winner is playing for the #1 seed in the postseason tournament.
