Eight goal second period drives Bees to victory

SAU continued its winning ways against Midland on Friday. St. Ambrose collected its fourth victory of the season beating Midland 16-4 at Heedum Field. The Bees had a slower start than normal in the game but hit their stride in the second quarter by scoring eight goals.  

To start things off, it was no other than Anabelle Brown (assist Lauren Hoesly) at the 11:15 marker. Both St. Ambrose and Midland would exchange goals before the end of the quarter. At the end of period one, SAU would take the lead 2-1.

The second period was a blow out for the Bees, scoring eight unanswered goals. Three different Bees combined for eight goals. Goals came from Anabelle Brown, Lauren Hoesly, and Abby Vanderwarren. After this phenomenal run, SAU extended their lead to 10-1 before halftime.

St. Ambrose would tack on another two goals in the third period to increase their lead. SAU would never look back and Midland would never threaten throughout the rest of the game. The Bees enlarge their lead 12-2. 

Claire Jeffers, Jayden Ambrose, and Cailey Kramer added on four goals to the already large lead for the Bees. The last goal of the game came for SAU at the 1:53 mark in the fourth quarter from Cailey Kramer. The final decision 16-4 in favor of the Bees.  

Anabelle Brown had a standout performance collecting five goals and six ground balls. Jayden Ambrose and Lauren Hoesly added three goals apiece. With Claire Jeffers following with two goals and 11 ground balls. 

Abby Vanderwarren had six pickups while Jayden Ambrose and Sophie McPeek had four pickups.

Saige Carlton played all 60 minutes in net for the Bees. She collected six saves and five ground balls. 

St. Ambrose was highly successful as a team on clear attempts. A total of 16-19 clear attempts were successful. 

Tomorrow the Bees will return home for a 3 p.m. start time vs. Saint Mary.
