Bees stall in fourth quarter against Ottawa

In a back-and-forth game, St. Ambrose's offense stalled in the fourth quarter leading to a 14-11 loss against Ottawa University Thursday evening in Davenport.

Tied at 10 heading into the final quarter, the Braves got three straight goals from Mackenzie Simmons to take a 13-10 lead with 8:30 remaining. Audrey Warner cut into the lead with a free-position goal at the 7:04 mark, but Ottawa would score late for the 14-11 final. SAU managed just four shots in the final frame.

Lauren Hoesly gave the Bees the lead to start the game, but the Braves answered back with two of their own for a 2-1 lead at 8:38 in the first. The game was tight from then out with both teams trading goals to close out the period. Maddie Wiltrout, Warner (twice), and Hannah Reynolds scored for SAU for a 5-all score going into the second.

The second was similar to the first, with Ottawa jumping out to a 6-5 lead before Annabelle Brown tied it up with 13:47 until the break. The Braves would score and take the lead on a free-postion attempt, but scores from Wiltrout and Warner gave SAU a slight 8-7 lead at halftime.

A Warner goal to start the third pushed the St. Ambrose lead to two with 13:56 left in the quarter. But Ottawa responded with two goals of their own to make it 9-9 at the 7:58 mark in the quarter. Reynolds gave the Bees a one-goal advantage with less than 90 seconds left in the frame, but the Braves scored late for the 10-all score heading into the fourth.

Brown had a game-high eight draw controls to go with her goal. Warner had a team-high five goals in the loss. Abby Taaffe had a game-high four caused turnovers. Maggie Samson made 11 saves.
