Bees drop non-conference contest to Warriors

St. Ambrose traveled to Fort Wayne, Ind. to face the Indiana Tech Warriors in a non-conference match on Monday afternoon. The Bees couldn't quite keep up and dropped the match, 22-9.

The home team got out to an early 3-0 lead, but SAU responded with goals from Delaney Austad and Mackenzie Zions to make it 3-2 with 4:26 left in the first frame. Indiana Tech closed out the quarter on a three-goal run to take a 6-2 lead going into the second.

A Warrior goal began the quarter, but Anabelle Brown responded with a goal for the Bees to make it 7-3 with 12:18 left until the break. IT would go on a 7-1 run over the next 12:17, with Brown scoring for SAU, to take a 14-4 lead. Maddie Wiltrout found Zions with one second left in the quarter to make it a 14-5 halftime score.

In the second half, Audrey Warner scored twice for the Bees in the third quarter, and Wiltrout and Abigail Varkalis added scores in the fourth. Indiana Tech scored eight goals over the final two periods for the 22-9 final.

Brown had two goals and two assists and won seven draw controls to lead St. Ambrose. Wiltrout had a game-high eight draw controls and collected five ground balls. Maggie Samson recorded eight saves.

SAU will get back to conference play on Wednesday, April 5th, taking on William Penn at 5 p.m.
