St. Ambrose falls short against Benedictine

St. Ambrose faced a tough challenge Saturday in Davenport, taking on the defending national champions and eighth-ranked Benedictine Ravens. The Bees - celebrating senior day - kept it close after one, but were outscored 16-3 in the final three quarters to fall 22-6.

Goals from Maddie Wiltrout and Anabelle Brown kept the game even at two with 7:56 left in the first quarter, but Benedictine went on a four-goal run before a late goal by Wiltrout to take a 6-3 lead into the second quarter.

Brown and Jayden Ambrose scored for SAU in the second quarter, while the Ravens put in another six goals for a 12-5 halftime lead.

Delaney Austad was the lone goal scorer for the Bees in the second half, and Benedictine scored 10 for the 22-6 final.

Lauren Hoesly had three assists for St. Ambrose. Brown and Wiltrout each won three draw controls. Abby Taffe collected two ground balls. Maggie Samson was credited with nine saves.

Seniors for SAU are Elexi Boladian, Lauren Koutouzis, Samson, Alivia Uebersetzig, Audrey Warner, Wiltrout, and Mackenzie Zions. Rea-Samone Brown and Hoesly are grad students.
