Eleven Bees score in win over Warriors

Eleven Bees found the back of the net Sunday afternoon as St. Ambrose went on to a 20-7 victory over Midland University in Fremont, Nebraska. The win moves SAU to 5-2 in the KCAC and 9-3 overall. 

Audrey Warner and Morgan Curzon gave St. Ambrose an early 2-0 lead. After a Midland score to make it 2-1 with 10:22 left in the first quarter, the Bees scored four straight to make it 6-1. Warner, Hannah ReynoldsSarah Diehl, and Abby Varkalis scored to give SAU a five-goal lead with 4:14 remaining in the period. The Warriors got a goal back to make it 6-2, but Alivia Uebersetzig and Lauren Koutouzis found the back of the net to close out the quarter.

St. Ambrose led 8-2 heading into the second quarter, but two quick scores from Midland made it a four-score game. The Bees responded with goals from Diehl and Curzon for a 10-4 lead with 10:09 left until halftime. The Warriors scored on a free position attempt to cut into the lead with 9:38 to go, but SAU went on a 5-0 run to close out the half. Maddie Wiltrout started the run with an unassisted goal, followed by back-to-back goals from Lauren Hoesly, and back-to-back scores from Warner for a 15-5 halftime lead. 

The Bees dominated coming out of the break, keeping their opponent scoreless and netting five of their own in the quarter. Scores from Mackenzie Zions, Warner, Curzon, Anabelle Brown, and Koutouzis made it 20-5 heading into the final frame. St. Ambrose would be held scoreless in the final quarter, while Midland would get two scores for the 20-7 final. 

Warner led all players with five goals, and Brown put up a game-high five assists in the win. Abby Taaffe and Warner each collected five ground balls, and Wiltrout won four draw controls. Maggie Samson made six saves in 45 minutes of action, and Katie Burr recorded two saves. 

St. Ambrose will close out the regular season on April 12th in Dubuque, Iowa against Clarke at 4 p.m.
