Bees face NCAA DI Butler Bulldogs

St. Ambrose traveled to Indianapolis, Ind. on Tuesday afternoon to take on NCAA Division I Butler University. The home team raced out to an eight-goal lead, and St. Ambrose could only manage 10 shots, ultimately falling to the Bulldogs 21-2 at Varsity Field. The loss puts the Bees now at 8-3 overall. 

Butler had seven different players score on the way to their early 8-0 lead with 3:31 left in the first quarter. Sarah Diehl was able to score for SAU to make it 8-1 with 1:32 to go in the quarter, but the Bulldogs closed the period on a three-goal run to take an 11-1 lead into the second. 

Maddie Wiltrout found the back of the net for the Bees in the second quarter to make it 11-2 with 11:33 until halftime, but Butler scored twice in the quarter to take a 13-2 halftime lead. 

St. Ambrose would be unable to score again in the second half, while Butler scored five in the third quarter and three in the final frame for the 21-2 final. 

Maggie Samson made 15 saves for the Bees. Diehl had five shots for St. Ambrose, Anabelle Brown had two, and Lauren HoeslyLauren Koutouzis, and Wiltrout each recorded one. Maura Healy and Alivia Uebersetzig collected two ground balls each, and Abby Taaffe, Diehl, and Koutouzis each had one. Koutouzis and Audrey Warner each caused one turnover. 

The Bees will look to get back on track at Midland on April 10th in a KCAC matchup at noon.
