St. Ambrose rolls through rival Augustana

St. Ambrose wasted little time Tuesday night at Thorson-Lucken Field against Augustana in a non-conference game. The Bees scored their first goal 45 seconds into the match and rolled from there, defeating the Vikings 17-5 in Rock Island, Ill. SAU is now 7-2 on the year, while Augie drops to 4-4.

Goals from Maddie WiltroutSarah DiehlAudrey Warner, and Anabelle Brown followed to give SAU a 5-0 lead with 9:59 remaining in the first quarter. Hoesly and Diehl would net their second goals of the day, and a goal from Morgan Curzon to close out the period gave the Bees an 8-0 lead heading into the second.

The Vikings would strike first early in the second quarter, but Curzon answered back with another goal. St. Ambrose would score three straight to close out the period with Warner scoring in between goals from Allie Ruggiero to take a 12-1 halftime lead.

The home team would get the first goal out of the break to make it a ten-goal game, but SAU would get goals from Curzon, Mackenzie Zions, Curzon again, and Claire Jeffers to take a 16-2 lead with 2:39 left in the third quarter. Augustana would score two goals late in the period to make it 16-4 heading into the final frame.
