SAU gets ranked win over No. 10 Georgetown College

St. Ambrose earned a ranked road win Monday night in Kentucky. Playing away from home for the first time this season, the Bees took down No. 10 Georgetown, 14-10, to move to 5-1 on the year. The Tigers are now 7-4 overall. 

SAU raced out to an early 5-0 lead to start the game with goals from Sarah DiehlMaddie WiltroutLauren HoeslyAudrey Warner, and Wiltrout again. Maggie Samson made four saves in the period to keep the home team off the scoreboard. 

The Bees continued to score in the second with Warner and Mackenzie Zions finding the back of the net to put St. Ambrose ahead 7-0 with 7:40 left until halftime. The home team got on the board with a man-up goal from Faith Boa at 6:43, but Wiltrout netted her third of the day to make it 8-1 with 3:32 to go. Georgetown would score on a free position attempt just thirty seconds after Wiltrout's score to make it 8-2 at the half. 

The teams traded goals to start the third quarter with Lauren Koutouzis getting on the score sheet for St. Ambrose, and Hannah Piquett scoring for Georgetown to make it 9-3 with 12:22 left in the frame. SAU then went on a three-goal run with scores from Diehl, Delaney Austad, and Warner to take a 12-3 lead with 5:26 remaining. The Tigers would not go quietly as they went on a seven-goal run of their own at the end of the third and into the fourth quarter to make it a two-score game with 11:16 left to play. Diehl was able to score her third of the day two minutes later to make it 13-10, and Austad would score a man-up goal with five minutes to go for the final tally. The Bees were able to control the rest of the game and did not allow a shot by the Tigers in the last five minutes.

Diehl, Warner, and Wiltrout each netted a hat trick for St. Ambrose. Anabelle Brown had a game-high three assists, and Avery Cummins, Hoesly, and Warner each had one. Abby Taafee and Wiltrout forced a game-high five turnovers, and Alivia Uebersetzig caused three turnovers. Samson finished with 13 saves in the win, and Katie Burr also saw time in goal. 

St. Ambrose will face another tough road test as they take on No. 6 Benedictine College on March 25th. The Bees will then face RV Ottawa University on March 26th.
