Bees win against Wildcats, Cardinals over the weekend

St. Ambrose went 2-0 over the weekend, defeating Culver-Stockton 18-3 on Saturday afternoon and defeating (RV) Concordia, 17-7, on Sunday afternoon at the St. Vincent's Athletic Complex in Davenport. SAU is now 3-0 on the year.

The Bees got off to a fast start Saturday, getting goals from Maddie WiltroutAudrey WarnerClaire JeffersSarah DiehlMorgan Curzon, Jeffers again, and Anabelle Brown to take a 7-0 lead after the first quarter. SAU dominated the second quarter as well, keeping the Wildcats off the scoreboard while netting five goals of their own to take a 12-0 halftime lead.

St. Ambrose scored four straight goals in the third quarter before Culver-Stockton found the back of the net for a 16-1 score heading into the last frame. The Wildcats would strike first in the fourth, but Curzon and Warner scored for the Bees for the 18-2 lead. Culver-Stockton would tack on a late goal to account for the final tally.

Curzon led the way with four goals, followed by Warner with three. Lauren Hoesly notched three assists to lead the Bees. Maggie SamsonKatie Burr, and Sophie McPeek split time in goal for St. Ambrose. Samson recorded six saves, and Burr had one.

St. Ambrose 17, Concordia 7

The second game of the weekend was a closer affair, but St. Ambrose used a six-goal second quarter to come away with the victory. Sarah Diehl netted a free position goal to get the Bees on the board first, and Lauren Hoesly found Maddie Wiltrout for an early 2-0 lead. Concordia would cut the lead with a goal from Greyson Papp with 4:36 remaining in the first, but SAU answered right back, with Delaney Austad scoring 18 seconds later as St. Ambrose took a 3-1 lead heading into the second. Anabelle Brown and Morgan Curzon pushed the SAU lead to four, but Concordia would net a goal with 8:10 to go in the half to make it 5-2. The Bees then went on a four-goal run to push the lead to 9-2 to break open the game. Nicole Bordo would nab a goal just before halftime for the visitors to make it 9-3.

The visitors came out with some fire in the second half, scoring the first goal of the third to get within five. But Concordia would get no closer, as Audrey Warner, Austad, and Curzon scored in the period to push the lead to 12-4. St. Ambrose would outscore their opponent 5-3 in the final frame to take the game 17-7. 

Curzon and Austad had four goals each, Brown and Wiltrout had two, and McKenna Palmer, Hoesly, Warner, Claire Jeffers, and Diehl each had one. Maggie Samson was stellar in goal, making 15 of her 17 saves in the first half. 

St. Ambrose will be back at home on Tuesday, March 8th to face William Penn at 5 p.m.
