SAU scores 23, moves on to KCAC semifinals

St. Ambrose dominated from start to finish on Saturday afternoon in Davenport. The Bees (12-1) matched their season-high goal total and allowed just one goal in the second half as they rolled to a 23-5 victory over Midland (5-8) to gain a spot in the KCAC Semifinals on April 22nd.

SAU got on the board early - scoring just 47 seconds into the game as Delaney Austad found Katie Baranski for the goal, and just 31 seconds later Maddie Wiltrout got on the scoresheet to give the Bees a quick 2-0 lead. St. Ambrose would get goals from Erin Green and Avery Cummins before the visitors would find the back of the net. Maggie Samson made a save on a free position shot attempt, but Midland's Riley Yanek was able to get the ball in the goal during a scramble in front of the net. The Bees would go on a 6-1 run to push the lead to 10-2 with 15:10 left in the first half. After two goals from Midland, St. Ambrose would score a man-down goal from Mackenzie Zions. Two goals from Morgan Curzon, a man-up goal from Maura Healy, and a free position goal from Erin Green would round out the first half as SAU would take a 15-4 lead into the half.

The scoring would slow down in the second half, but Wiltrout got another goal just 29 seconds into the half. Midland would get their only goal of the period from Masey Jay with 26:32 left to go. Goals from Katie Baranski, Austad, and Zions would follow to give the Bees an 18-5 advantage. Allison Claus made a free position shot save to keep the Ambrose lead at 14. St. Ambrose would score four more goals, and Katie Burr made two straight saves as SAU would take the game 23-5.

Baranski, Curzon, and Zions each finished with four goals, and Wiltrout and Austad added 3. Green, Cummins, Healy, and McKenna Sears were the other goal scorers. Lauren Hoesly led the team with five assists, and Austad added four. Samson made two saves in goal, Claus made one, and Burr had two.

St. Ambrose moves on to the KCAC Semifinals on Thursday, April 22nd at 7 p.m. in Atchison, Kansas. They will face Missouri Baptist who won their quarterfinal 15-11 over Missouri Valley. St. Ambrose and Missouri Baptist did not face each other in the regular season.
