St. Ambrose silences Spires

St. Ambrose (10-1, 7-1 KCAC) scored 14 goals in the first half and allowed just one in the second on their way to a 19-4 win against the University of St. Mary (1-9, 1-9 KCAC) Sunday afternoon in Leavenworth, Kansas.

The Bees got on the board quick with goals from Maddie Wiltrout and Mackenzie Zions in the first three minutes to give SAU a 2-0 lead. The Spires would get a goal back, but Lauren Hoesly found Delaney Austad just 16 seconds later for a 3-1 Bee lead. Hoesly would team up with Zions for the next St. Ambrose goal just five minutes into the contest. USM would cut the lead to 4-2 on a free position shot from Paige Ecton, but SAU would score the next four goals to gain an 8-2 advantage. After a St. Mary score with 10:32 to go in the half, the Bees would claim the next six, including a Morgan Curzon goal with 29 seconds remaining to close out the half for a 14-3 lead.

The SAU defense would hold it down in the second half allowing just four shots. Erin Green and Curzon scored the first two goals of the second before the Spires would find the back of the net for the final time. Hoesly added a man-up unassisted goal before Katie Baranski got two for the Bees for the 19-4 final.

Baranski scored four goals, and Austad added three. Zions, Wiltrout, Curzon, and Green each had two. McKenna Sears, Claire Jeffers, and Audrey Warner also got on the scoresheet. Hoesly had five assists to go along with her score. Alivia Uebersetzig caused three turnovers and collected three ground balls. Maggie Samson made two saves in 30 minutes of action, while Allison Claus made two saves in 21 minutes. Katie Burr also saw time in the net.

The Bees will return home for the regular-season finale on April 13th at 4 p.m. against Clarke.
