Bees hold off Hawks

On a cold and rainy afternoon, the St. Ambrose women's lacrosse team held off the Quincy University Hawks, 12-8 Wednesday in Davenport. With the win, the Bees are now 6-0 on the year.

The Hawks got on the board first, scoring on a free position shot from Danielle Robinson. Erin Green evened it up after Audrey Warner found her for the goal. The teams would trade goals - with Katie Baranski and Mackenzie Zions scoring for SAU. With the game tied at 3-3, St. Ambrose would go on a four-goal run to push the lead to 7-3. Warner and Maddie Wiltrout scored from the free position, and Lauren Hoesly found Wiltrout and then Green for the goals during the run. Quincy would get a goal from Sarah Conroy to make it 7-4 at halftime.

Warner would find the first goal in the second half with Morgan Curzon on the assist, giving the SAU a four-goal lead. No one would score for the next 13 minutes until Quincy converted a free position shot. Warner would score her third goal of the day with just over 12 minutes left and Delaney Austad scored two goals just a minute apart to push the lead to 11-5. The Hawks responded, scoring three straight goals on their own to get back within three with just 3:15 remaining. The Bees would hold on for the victory as Austad scored with 1:14 left to account for the final.

Maggie Samson made four saves in the win. St. Ambrose won 13 draw controls and collected eight more ground balls than Quincy.

The Bees will travel to Canton, Mo. on March 20th to take on KCAC foe Culver-Stockton College at 5 p.m.
