Strong second gives Bees win over William Penn

In the second game of the season, the St. Ambrose women's lacrosse team put together another strong second half to earn a 13-4 conference victory over William Penn University on Wednesday night.

The Bees fell behind early with William Penn scoring the first three goals of the night. SAU would get one back as Alivia Uebersetzig found Audrey Warner for a goal. St. Ambrose would head into halftime down 3-1.

St. Ambrose would wake up in the second half with Avery Cummins and Maddie Wiltrout scoring goals early in the frame to get the game back to even. William Penn would score just once more in the match as the defense allowed four total shots in the half. The Bees would go on to score 10 straight goals to earn a 13-4 victory. Katie Baranski scored three, Mackenzie Zions scored two, Wiltrout scored two, and Cummins, Delaney Austad, and Erin Green added one each during the 10-0 scoring run.

Lauren Hoesly led the team with three assists. The Bees had a 14-4 advantage in draw controls and outshot their opponent 35-16.

Maggie Samson was credited with five saves in the win.

St. Ambrose will travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. on Saturday to take on Aquinas College. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
